A weekend away from reality: Visit to the Weird Wide Web

Malaysia is not a very happy place as I write this. All this unhappines, of course, revolves around those darned Danish cartoons; some are angry over the treatment of the two newspapers – one of which was shut down indefinetly – that ran the cartoons or made reference to other papers that ran the cartoons, many are not happy that one newspaper, and a couple of TV stations got off unscathed. Some, however, are protesting even the mention of the name M****** in another cartoon. The Youth wing of PAS did today what they do so well (other than bitch and moan a lot), and carried out a demo in front of the NST.

In their unhappines, their imagination ran wild, I suppose. Amusing how a bunch of looney-tunes, emo-laden, religious-fervored folks have the amount of credibility they do. Oh, well, they can act as ignorant as they want; I really don’t give a rats ass.

Then, in all this anger and insanity, there’s the bird-flu scare in Gombak.

A bird-flu over the cuckoo’s nest”... how fitting.

Ha, ha. An accidental pun. At least I still have my sense of humor.

So, anyway, there’s a lot of unhappiness around me. Instead of following suit and wallow in the sadness and the various sources of the sadness, I decided to post something totally wacky instead. Not that the previous Bighead post was serious, but I figure all of us need a good laugh from time to time.

The World-Wide Web is indeed a wonderful dimension, with knowledge over-flowing the gazillion bits and bytes that make up what is, in reality, a super-computer even Deep Thought would be proud of. Here, therefore, is a small collection of the oddities I’ve come across recently.

Unless you’ve been living under a coconut shell, trapped underneath a big rock, somewhere deep in the Pahang forest, you would probably have heard of Chewbacca, the large Wookie in the earlier series of 3 Star Wars movies.

Well, apparently, Chewy has his own website – all written in Wookie, but very well complemented with a lot of hilarious pictures. This has to be one of the funniest websites I have come across in a long, long time. I’ve posted one of the pictures from Chewy’s site below.

Be sure to check out the older posts as well. A picture, as they say, paint a thousand words – this site is chock-full of ‘em.

Closer to home, we all know the abuse that the English language gets in this region. Japan, in particular, is infamous for the ingenius ways the language has been applied over the years. So much so, a site called Engrish exists to compile the various occurrences of wrong-English.

Over the years this site has become so successful, there’s even an online store with lots of merchandise to burn your money on. (http://www.engrish-store.com/engrish-store/).

If, however, you are on a tight schedule, check out Yahoo! UK & Ireland Top 100 Weird Sites list. A one-stop shop for the bizarre, funny and sometimes out of this world.

And there's more; lots more. But half the fun of surfing is finding out the sites on your own. And trust me, you could spend hours upon hours in sheer mirth. So I won't spoil your fun - go find 'em yourself.

Earlier in the post, I suggested that some of the PAS protesters my have been on mind altering sustances. Maybe that's not it at all. Maybe it's just delusion! Here’s "proof" that Malaysian’s could be suffering from mass delusion. It’s the only explanation for the success of the likes of Mawi, Siti Nurhaliza, etc.

Well, so much for my little sabbatical from the insanity and sadness in our beloved asylum called Malaysia. It was a nice weekend away from reality. Let's hope that this coming week won't be so sad. But then again, this is Malaysia, the land of many possibilities.
