Just got word that Tan Sri Abdul Samad Ismail, the grand-daddy of journalism (so Walski's told and heard), has passed on.

Walski's deepest condolences to Nuraina and her family.

The first time Walski met Nuraina, Shanghai Stephen asked Walski if Walski was aware who Nuraina's father was. Being a total noob to the world of Malaysian journalism at the time, much less its history, Walski naturally didn't know.

But Pak Samad (as he was fondly known) was a big deal to Malaysian journalists. He stood for the purest essence of what the profession stood for. And Walski regrets that he never had the opportunity to really know this great man. Not first-hand, anyway.

Incidentally, this is not a proper In Memoriam post for the man. That will come later... well, sooner than later Walski hopes. In the meantime, Walski's prayers go to the family of this recently departed Malaysian hero. A seldom spoken-of hero, but a hero nevertheless.

In the cycle of Life, from Him we come, and to Him we return... rest in peace, kind sir.
