VD Bloody VD...
Technorati tags: Valentine's Day, Elections, Announcement, Valentine's Day Gift
It's that time of year again - romance, overpriced roses, exhorbitant cover charges at clubs, glowing hearts, the occassional nasty break up, and over-activity by the religious police. Yup.. it's Valentine's Day once again.
As has been the tradition for the last several years, Walski and the Mrs will have a nice quiet dinner somewhere.. just the two of us.. but without the ultra-commercialization. We still haven't decided where yet.. we'll cross that bridge once we get to it. Today is turning out to be a busier day for Walski than he would like it to be, but there's always time put aside on February 14 every year for dinner with Walski's significant other...
Now, the post title, and accompanying pix, may be a little misleading. Walski has nothing against Valentine's Day, or the idea of having a day to honor your most important loved ones in your life... Be it your spouse, boyfriend/girlfriend, parents... It's actually the over-commercialization of this day that Walski has a bit of a beef about. Just a tiny one though.
For Walski these days, every day is Valentine's Day, as far as he and (more importantly) the Mrs are concerned...
It seems, however, the nation got its VD gift yesterday, one day earlier... and today, we got a follow up gift from the Election Commission, which announced March 8th as polling day For the 12th General Elections.
Well, at least we can't complain that we didn't get anything for Valentine's Day...
(a VD gift from the EC, and more, in the full post)
Wow... longer campaign time... But then again, with the Internet, campaigning had already begun a long time ago, albeit not for specific locations. Unless you've been living under a rock someplace, you too would have noticed this. And because of the advancements in technology, it's difficult to hide misdeeds anymore. To a certain extent, too, the entire nature of political campaigning has changed (or will very soon).
Walski sees the practice of poster wars (soon to commence) as both funny and wasteful... The idea that the more posters and banners of a particular party are up, the more mindshare you get, is really so last century. Campaigning against the current BN-led government has begun a long time ago, with every misdeed made known through blogs, websites and forums... In the era of the information age, it's difficult to hide anymore.
But poster wars do have their entertainment value, Walski has to add. Despite being wasteful, and sometimes and eyesore.
Oh well...
Back to Valentine's Day... Walski hopes for those who wish to splurge today and tonite, that they have a great time... It's difficult to fight commercialism, unfortunately. And as Walski mentioned earlier, he has nothing against the celebration itself.
So, Happy VD folks... and hopefully the VD gift we all got today will enable all of us to show our love for Malaysia, by doing the right thing on March 8th...
